Living Area with Custom Kite

Project Description

Many clients ask what to do for art work, as well as noise, in rooms with those cathedral ceilings! Everything is beyond human scale in the size of the walls, yet typical furniture still seems to be under 36 inches tall. It is an odd mix, to be sure. This custom kite played wistfully across the huge wall and did several things for our client's family room. It acted as a sound absorbing baffle, created a wonderful focal point and unified the upper wall with the furnishings in the room. The walls here are a warm neutral, the carpet a textured wool berber. Furnishings include a large sectional with a fan-patterned fabric and an acrylic and glass coffee table. The fireplace (middle left photo) provided a perfect seat for a custom life-sized sculpture. (Life sized for a 12-year-old!)

The bedroom (left) is a combination of custom furnishings with a mix of contemporary art and the found object. Adding something odd or unusual is a very exciting twist to the big picture. When most of the basics play in harmony together, the dissonant chord creates excitement!
